I have a 1927-1928 tub with American Standard faucets. I want to get contemporary handles. I have been told only American Standard Renu line matches the valve stems. How difficult/costly (I would have the plumber do it) would it be to replace the stems so I could get the newer look handles? What valves would be easiest and most versatile to put on after unscrewing the old valves? Would I need three valves (one for the diverter also)? Secondly, I would like to put a European shower on, and would I attach it to the diverter (hard wire it, so to speak)? I don't want it to look jerry-rigged by putting it on the tub spout. Finally, are there new tub spouts which would screw onto the same stem as the old one? Thanks for everyone's help in advance.
