water heater only staying lit for about 10 mins. Pilot lights and stays. I then turn gas on and get full flame for about 10 mins. and then everything shuts off including pilot.

it could possbly be the thermocoupe or the magnetic safety in the thermostat or pilot or burner flame. You need to have a pro look at this as they have the test equipment to trouble shoot this. it may only be minor.
