DirtGeneral.Com, a new way to distribute fill dirt.
Posted on 03.18.06 by admin @ 09:11 PST

Craig S. Davies obviously learned a number of valuable lessons from “running” the other end of a shovel. Most of us see just plain, old dirt. Davies sees both a need and a solution, which led him to create a fascinating new and more efficient way to dispose of fill dirt while helping the environment at the same time.

While running that shovel, including owning and operating excavation companies, Davies observed the inefficiencies and waste associated with finding locations for fill dirt. “It just dawned on me after numerous years in the excavation business, there’s got to be a better and more efficient way to dispose of fill,” said Davies. Thus the idea was born combining his extensive knowledge of the excavation business with a powerful Internet solution.

Davies has launched a new Web site, DirtGeneral.com, which uses the reach of the Internet to match excavators with excess fill to convenient dump sites. “Why go to the expense and lost time of running costly trucks all over the place when a convenient dump site might be just a half mile away?

Davies says that DirtGeneral.com isn’t just for the huge excavation companies, but also serves anyone with excess fill including residential contractors, road contractors and even swimming pool builders.

How DirtGeneral.com works

Davies’ Web site allows anyone to post a FREE listing both for those who need fill material and for those seeking its disposal. “We are not a Dirt Broker, emphasizes Davies, instead, we provide an online meeting and marketplace for anyone with a fill dirt issue, either too much or too little.”

DirtGeneral.com users are required to register and they can do it for any zip code in the U.S. Then with the click of a mouse, a suitable and hopefully more efficient dump location or fill supplier can be found. “We’re a marketplace for dirt,” said Davies.

DirtGeneral.com derives its revenue from reasonably-priced advertising listings posted by a variety of suppliers closely related to the excavation business including equipment sales and leasing, repair, maintenance, developers, realtors®, contractors, etc. DirtGeneral.com encourages creative thinking from businesses and individuals seeking new contacts along with sales and service opportunities.

Davies also hopes his Web site will not only help control cost efficiencies, but also be friendly to the environment. “Shorter trips will result not only in fuel savings, but emissions will be reduced as well,” he emphasizes, “and this is something we all need to be thinking more about.”
