CADdetails Ltd., the industry leader in developing and cataloguing predefined CAD drawings and specifications for hundreds of manufacturers, announced the release of ParametrX V1, a new product selection and configuration tool for architects.
The Parametric Custom Product Configurator (ParametrX) uses a combination of mathematics and information technology designed to solve constraint satisfaction problems. The system is made up of three key components; template files, ASP files, and a new proprietary language internally referred to as X-code. These components comprise the configuration engine and the product modeling tool.
The system allows the architect to enter desired values and materials in a non linear process. The configurator generates the best possible configurations based on known constraints, dependant variables and independent variables, built into the program using real engineering data. The net result is a set of custom product configurations that are engineered to order and supported by the manufacturer.
Jim Ballantyne, President and CEO of
CADdetails Ltd., described the system as follows;
“Take a window manufacturer for example - a company might offer 10 different window styles, 10 heights, 8 widths, 4 glazing options, 4 grill styles, and various hardware and material choices. These selections alone produce at least 64,000 possible product configurations, before even considering additional options such as color, custom sizing, and the type of installation.
Manufacturers whose potential product configurations are this numerous will benefit from a customer driven system that allows a designer to generate the desired CAD drawings and specifications to meet their specific design project needs. The system has a requisite userfriendly, web-based interface that offers manufacturers total control when adding, removing, and managing parameter values for any of their products.”
This new technology is not strictly limited to windows however - during the spring of 2006, elevator, lighting, and furniture companies will also help to make life easier for the architect by replacing their dated drawing library system with this new and exciting web-based parametric design tool.
