Many building officials do not realize how all-inclusive the International Fire Code is. It covers areas such as general precautions against fire, and indoor displays to fire service features, fire apparatus access roads, and hazards to firefighters. One of the most important chapters covers emergency planning and preparedness and requires evacuation plans for many occupancies.
We did a study of fire safety during 2003 and 2004. Our analysis was focused on passive fire blocking in residential construction. Unexpectedly, we discovered that mold incidence was substantially affected by fire blocking.
This article describes the main welding codes that are currently in use in the USA and a brief description of what they cover. Virtually any manufactured product that is joined by any welding process could be designated to one or more of these codes or others not covered in this article.
